A lockdown was lifted at West Chicago Community High School on Tuesday, the school’s graduation day, after police deemed a phone threat to be unfounded.
The school, at 326 Joliet St., went on lockdown around 11:40 a.m. after it received a call from someone saying they wanted to harm the building, according to a statement from Community High School District 94.
Police cleared the school and, during the investigation, found that a similar call from the same number had been placed to another school out of state, the school said. Students were then dismissed from the school.
“Based on the information gathered, law enforcement advised that this was likely a swatting incident and that there was no immediate threat to the school,” the school district said in a statement.
A West Chicago police spokesperson said no one was hurt and declined to elaborate on the situation.
A graduation ceremony was scheduled for 7 p.m. Tuesday, according to the school’s website.
