The Bears are set at quarterback going into the season with starter Caleb Williams, backup Tyson Bagent and grizzled third-stringer Case Keenum. They’re working with undrafted rookie Miller Moss, from Louisville, with an eye on developing him on their practice squad.
Even without a path to roster spot, Moss chose the Bears over “a number of teams” because he thought it gave him the best long-term chance at making it in the league.
“When it came to the coaching staff here, the trajectory of the franchise and the players that I had relationships with here, this was the best place for me to develop and a phenomenal organization that I wanted to be a part of,” Moss said.
Before transferring to Louisville for his final season, Moss was at USC and was Williams’ backup at USC in 2022 and ’23. Moss said they’ve been friends since they were 17.
While the Bears likely don’t have a roster spot for Moss this season, developing him into a backup or trade asset down the road would be valuable.
“A player like this has potential to stick around in the league and potentially play, which is our mission,” offensive coordinator Press Taylor said. “I don’t think you’re ever going to be disappointed to have a quarterback room full of a lot of guys who can play. That’s a great problem to have.”
The Bears also had Western Kentucky quarterback Maverick McIvor at rookie minicamp on a tryout.
