White Sox promote Japanese prospect Rikuu Nishida from Charlotte before Twins game Monday

As expected, the White Sox promoted infielder/outfielder Rikuu Nishida from Triple-A Charlotte before Monday’s game against the Twins, giving Japanese slugger Munetaka Murakami a fellow countryman on the team’s roster. 

Nishida, 25, is batting ninth and playing right field. In a corresponding move, outfielder Jarred Kelenic was designated for assignment.
 
Nishida, from Osaka, is slashing.347/.454/.395 (43-124) with three doubles, one home run, 10 RBI, 21 walks, nine stolen bases, 33 runs and an .849 OPS over 33 games with Charlotte this season since being promoted from Double-A Birmingham on April 17. The 5-foot-6, 150-pound Nishida has appeared in 24 games at second base, 10 in right field, three in left and two in center with the Knights.

Nishida is batting a combined .323/.449/.384 (53-164) with seven doubles, one homer, 12 RBI, 32 RBI, 15 stolen bases, 43 runs scored and an .833 OPS over 44 games between Birmingham and Charlotte in 2026.
