At least 25 shot, including toddler killed, during holiday weekend violence citywide

At least 25 people have been shot since Friday evening, a toddler fatally, during the Memorial Day holiday weekend citywide.

Though a 31-year-old man was arrested in shooting death of toddler, Jamonte Shaw, no charges have been announced by police as of Monday afternoon.

Jamonte was at the home around 12:40 p.m. Sunday in the 900 block of East 104th Street in Pullman when he shot himself in the head, police said. He was pronounced dead less than an hour later. A Monday autopsy was inconclusive as to the cause and manner of the toddler’s death, pending a police investigation, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

In other non-fatal weekend shootings, most recently a 21-year-old man was driving a black car in the 4100 block of block of South Racine Avenue in the Back of the Yards neighborhood about 10:40 p.m. Sunday when an assailant in another car opened fire, hitting him. He was in good condition at a hospital.

At about 8:05 p.m. Sunday, a 33-year-old old man was also left in good condition after being shot in the 1700 block of North Laramie Avenue in Austin about 8 p.m. Sunday.

Other shootings since Friday at 5 p.m. left at least 22 other people shot across the city.
