Arguably the least controversial actor today, you wouldn’t think Bullock would have much to fear on Instagram. She has made nearly 60 movies to date, with her latest being Loretta/Angela in The Lost City alongside Tatum and another (Maria Beetle in Bullet Train) in post-production.

There’s a long list of big hits with her name in the female lead. Still, the most famous include Ashburn in The Heat, Gracie Hart in Miss Congeniality, Ryan Stone in Gravity, Margaret Tate in The Proposal (alongside the incredibly talented Ryan Reynolds!), and Annie in Speed.

And that’s just the tip of the iceberg.

In addition to earning numerous accolades for her performances, she has been awarded the highest honor for a professional in the industry — an Oscar. This award win was given to her in 2010 for her incredible performance in The Blind Side, with Gravity earning her another Oscar nomination just four years later.

Sandra Bullock is a name that just about everyone recognizes — even if you can’t follow her personal life as closely as other celebrities with an Instagram. She has built her life on a highly successful and skilled career, full of everything from comedy and action to serious roles like 2014’s Gravity.

Her latest adventure is alongside Channing Tatum in The Lost City. Recent interviews surrounding the movie’s premiere have resurged the unanswered question on everyone’s mind: Why isn’t the actor on social media? She tells Tatum and viewers it’s because she’s “too scared,” but an interview with SXM will tie those fears with one of her hit movies that is nearly three decades old now!

Although being on social media and connecting with fans is an essential part of being a celebrity and generating more buzz in your career, Bullock has stayed clear of Instagram, and her reasoning is pretty understandable.

In a WIRED interview where Tatum and Bullock tackle questions about themselves that are the ‘web’s most searched,’ the long-time, successful actor tells us why.

Tatum answers first by saying, “Because she’s the only smart one here.” However, Bullock jumps in to answer truthfully that it’s actually “because she’s too scared. I’m just too scared!”

Her The Lost City co-star repeats, “Yeah, smart!”

Although she doesn’t go through why she’s scared, it’s easy to assume it’s because of the hate, harassment, creepy messages, and overall negativity that plague most celebrity accounts. Luckily for her, Bullock has been in the business long enough that her name is easily recognized without an established online presence.

Aside from the betrayal of ex-husband Jesse James (who had an affair with Kat Von Dee), the actor has managed to stay out of the limelight regarding controversies and criticism. And even then, Bullock was the one wronged, so she would’ve certainly been met with positivity on the platform (we’d hope, anyway!).
