NEW YORK — Jalen Brunson, newly crowned NBA champion and former Sun-Times high school Player of the Year, will host “Saturday Night Live” when the new season begins later this month.
Brunson, who helped the New York Knicks win the title for the first time in 53 years, makes his hosting debut Sept. 26 with pop girl group Katseye the musical guest.
It will be Brunson’s hosting debut on SNL.
Brunson is the fifth NBA star to be tapped as a host by the long-running late-night sketch comedy show, joining Bill Russell, Charles Barkley, Michael Jordan and LeBron James.
Brunson led Stevenson to the IHSA state championship in 2015.
Brunson averaged 28.4 points, 6.1 assists and 3.2 rebounds in 19 playoff games last season for the Knicks before leading the franchise to its first NBA title since 1973. Brunson underwent wrist surgery earlier this offseason, but is expected to return to basketball-related activities in time for the start of training camp.
The NBC sketch comedy show airs at 10:30 p.m. Chicago time and streams live on Peacock.
