A body appeared in the water off an Isle of Wight beach this morning.
The person was pulled from the water around 9.40am after HM Coastguard was alerted to its presence off the Esplanade near Shanklin seafront.
They were pronounced dead after being pulled ashore where paramedics were waiting.
So far the person’s identity is unknown.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary said: ‘We will provide further information as soon as we are able to.’
A helicopter was pictured flying through overcast skies above a lifeboat during the recovery missing this morning.
Parts of the beach were cordoned off.
