The King’s Academy flag football player Sofia Poonen is the Bay Area News Group’s girls high school athlete of the week for Oct. 14-19.
In online voting that ended at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Poonen had 36.72% of the votes. Alhambra flag football player Jessica Blake took second at 28.26% and Mission San Jose volleyball player Claribel Chen placed third at 16.28%.
Congratulations to all the candidates for this week’s recognition.
Poonen, a senior, had 134 yards receiving and five TDs, picked off two passes and pulled five flags in games against St. Francis and Notre Dame-Belmont. Poonen is closing in on 1,000 receiving yards for the season.
