U.S. Senator John Cornyn (R-TX), who just lost his reelection GOP primary to President Trump’s pick, Attorney General Ken Paxton, is responding to Senator Mike Lee‘s (R-UT) push to pass the SAVE Act, the voter ID bill that doesn’t have the votes to pass in the Senate.
Lee today wrote on social media: “‘We don’t have 60 votes so we must give up’ = recipe for failure.”
Cornyn replied: “Your job to get ‘em, Mike, if you can. Can’t just complain about others. Prove us wrong.”

Lee has said Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) is not “putting in the hard work” to pass the bill.
Thune said on Thursday: “Everybody knows we’re not nuking the filibuster.” He added, “It was on the floor for two weeks. We’ve had now five votes on it, none of which have gotten 60, and Save America hasn’t even gotten 50.”
[NOTE: Cornyn, who voted in favor of the SAVE Act in March, has voiced opposition to changing the filibuster to pass it.]
Lee has also criticized Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR) for telling Fox News, “The reality is we don’t have 50 votes for it right now as it’s written, much less 60 votes.” Lee replied, “That’s not true. The Save America Act has 50 votes.”
