It’s MLB’s Opening Day! The Milwaukee Brewers kick off their 2026 campaign against the Chicago White Sox, but the season is going to start with some tough injury news for the Brew Crew.
Early Thursday morning, the Brewers announced that star outfielder Jackson Chourio will head to the injured list with a fractured hand. It’s a 10-day stint due to a fracture in his left hand.
Jackson Chourio will be further evaluated, and the early estimation is that it will take about 2-4 weeks to heal, which could leave Chourio out of the Brewers’ lineup for almost a month.

Chourio was hit in the hand early in March during a WBC game, which could be where this fracture originated. Either way, losing Jackson Chourio is a tough blow for the Milwaukee lineup.
In 2025, Chourio hit .270 with 21 home runs, 78 RBI, and 148 hits. In 2024, he also hit 21 home runs and posted very similar overall numbers as last season. Chourio is also just 22, so he has plenty of time to develop, but nagging injuries can kill development.
The hope is that it doesn’t affect Chourio long-term, but there’s no way to tell how a fracture will heal and how it may or may not affect a hitter’s respective swing.
Blake Perkins has been called up from Triple-A to take over Chourio’s left field spot. Milwaukee takes on the Chicago White Sox on Thursday at 2:30 p.m. EST.

What Does Jackson Chourio Mean for Milwaukee?
This injury might mean that the Milwaukee Brewers get off to a bit of a slower start out of the gate, but that’s been no issue for the Brewers in the past.
Just last year, they had fallen a bit behind in the NL Central, but rattled off 14-straight wins during the regular season in a summer surge to capture the best record in the NL.
The Brewers still have a very solid overall roster backed by a great pitching staff, a great manager, and veteran bats in the lineup. They’ll likely be able to weather this Jackson Chourio news, but it would help drastically to get some type of production by his replacement.
