Taylor Swift Gets Bad News From Brit Awards as Travis Kelce Adds to Their Family

Over the last few weeks, Taylor Swift fans took a bit of a break from speculating on their idol’s wedding date with Kansas City Chiefs legend Travis Kelce. Instead they switched to speculating about whether Swift would attend the Brit Awards in Manchester, England. Swift was nominated for two Brit Awards this year, and there was even some speculation that she would perform there.

As the February 27 date grew closer, however, it became increasingly clear that Swift, despite traveling to London two weeks earlier, would stay home with Kelce rather than show up at the Brits. And as it turned out, she had a good reason to pass up the ceremony.

The Brit Awards snubbed Swift completely. She failed to win either category in which she was nominated.

But there was a happier development back on the home front, thanks to Kelce, who brought three new members into the superstar couple’s family.

Who Won International Artist of the Year?

Swift was nominated for two Brit Awards honors. First, she was up for the International Artist of the Year award, a trophy given to the voters’ favorite non-British music star.

Swift had some heavy competition that included Puerto Rican rapper Bad Bunny, as well as pop singers Chappell Roan and Sabrina Carpenter, and perhaps not surprisingly, Lady Gaga. But in the end, the award went to none of them. Instead, the winner in that International Artist category was Spanish experimental pop artist Rosalía.

According to the Brit Awards description, the Spanish singer-songwriter is “one of the most experimental and exciting musical acts working today. Across three studio albums and collaborations with the likes of Björk, Travis Scott and Billie Eilish, she has interrogated the modern parameters of pop music, infusing eclectic, electronic production with the sounds of her homeland like reggaeton, Flamenco and truly avant-garde Latin pop.”

Which Song Won International Song of the Year?

Next Swift was nominated for the first single off of her latest album, The Life of a Showgirl, which was, of course, “The Fate of Ophelia,” a number in which Swift seems to compare herself to the most prominent woman character in William Shakespeare’s Hamlet — but one who sadly meets a terrible fate in the play.

Though the song held the No. 1 position on the United Kingdom charts for seven weeks, the International Song of the Year Brit Award went to “Apt.,” a collaboration between Bruno Mars and Rosé, a singer best known as part of the Korean “girl group” BlackPink.

What Did Kelce Do to Keep Swift Happy?

Back on the home front, Swift got sort of a consolation prize, or three consolation prizes, thanks to Kelce, when — according to a report by Geo TV News — “the ‘Opalite’ hitmaker seems to have finally given in to Kelce’s longtime wish to welcome otters to their family of animals, as a certificate of adoption with his name is circulating all over social media.”

The adoption certificate shows that Kelce is now the proud pet dad to Thor, Yeyuno, and Matteo, who are described as “giant river otters.”

The initial report on social media came from the Philadelphia Zoo, so it appears that is where Kelce was able to adopt the otters. What remains unclear is whether Swift and Kelce brought the otters home with them, or if the “adoption” was only symbolic, meaning that Kelce has contributed some cash to go toward the trio’s care and feeding as they stay in their zoo home.
