Browns Receiver Gets Honest on Shedeur Sanders

The Cleveland Browns are still searching for offensive rhythm as rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders works to build chemistry with his receivers ahead of his third start.

Cedric Tillman, one of Sanders’ top targets, said there’s no question about the young quarterback’s talent. What the unit needs now is continuity, which has been hard to come by amid the Browns’ ongoing quarterback carousel. Despite having just one catch over the last two weeks, Tillman has faith in Sanders.

“You know, he’s a talented, smart quarterback, so for sure,” Tillman told Cleveland.com.

Sanders is the Browns’ third starting quarterback this season. Cleveland’s offense is averaging just 16.2 points and 159.6 passing yards per game, which is 31st in the NFL. Tillman said receivers naturally want early involvement, but he also emphasized the importance of staying poised and ready regardless of volume.

“I think every receiver wants to get going in the beginning of the game,” he said. “But it’s our job to kind of just stay ready when the ball comes to us.”

Sanders and the Browns are coming off a loss to the 49ers, where the passing game once again sputtered with bouts of inconsistency. The rookie finished with 149 yards and a touchdown, but the offense struggled to find rhythm through the air.

Sanders didn’t take any snaps with the starting unit before stepping in at halftime of the Week 11 matchup against the Baltimore Ravens, and he’s acknowledged that chemistry is still a work in progress.

“Overall I would say just being able to get on the same page and trust,” Sanders said. “The hardest thing in this game and right now is having trust, having trust in everybody. Certain movements, certain ways we make eye contact, like certain things is so detailed and that’s how I play very comfortably.

“That’s how I get in my comfort zone. That’s how I get in my bag, that’s how I’m able to do that.”

Tillman agreed that more time together is key to building a cohesive, effective offense.

“Obviously, the more reps we get, the more we communicate the things that he likes, and vice versa,” Tillman said. “The more comfortable both sides will be. Just trying to get the quarterback and the receivers and everybody on the field as comfortable with each other as possible. Like you said, reps have kind of been limited, but each week just try to expand on them.”

Browns WR Jerry Jeudy Addresses Sideline Spat With Shedeur Sanders

Tillman is handling the lack of production from the passing game a little differently than Jerry Jeudy. The Browns’ No. 1 receiver got into a heated sideline exchange with Sanders while going over a play during the loss to San Francisco.

Jeudy addressed the spat this week, chalking it up to the emotions of a football game.

“We spoke about it. We good,” Jeudy said. “It was about a play. This is an emotional sport. Things like that happen in football.”

Jeudy has just 35 catches for 421 yards and one touchdown this season. He also leads the NFL with nine drops. The Browns’ offense will look to get on track this week against the one-win Tennessee Titans.
