A cup of coffee: small but mighty – and now it truly has the power to change lives (no, we’re not just talking about your morning roast pick-me-up).

Nespresso is supporting Change Please in their mission to end homelessness one cup at a time, and coffee lovers can step up to the plate to help.

Whether you love a bold espresso or are more partial to an iced latte, by making one small change to your daily ritual you could support Change Please’s mission to give people a second shot at life.

Nespresso has pledged a minimum £1million commitment to Change Please which will help those who are experiencing homelessness through barista training, a living wage, mental health support, securing housing and opening a bank account, as well as onward employment opportunities. Further profits made from sales of accessories and upcoming events will also be given to support the work of Change Please.

To support the launch of these new coffees – there is also a collection of new, delectable recipes – from a Raspberry Refresher to a Pink Martini.

Homelessness is at an all-time high, with Change Please’s 2022-2023 Impact Report, showing a 50% increase in homelessness between March 2022 and March 2023. The cost-of-living crisis and rental hikes being attributed as a primary reason. Tragically, the report also noted 1,313 deaths in 2021 as a result of homelessness.

Add this to data from Shelter, which estimated that, 309,000 people spent Christmas without a home in 2023, and reports from Crisis UK showed the number of those sleeping rough is now 61% higher than 10 years ago –  120% higher than when data collection began in 2010.

So far this year, Change Please has supported 720 people through its programmes (after 2023 saw them help 1,550 people). The donation from Nespresso will see Change Please begin its impact work in Ireland, replicating the successful model from the UK, and hoping to benefit over 50 individuals in Dublin.

How can coffee lovers get involved in this powerful initiative?

There will be a number of opportunities for consumers to show support with exciting sponsorship events throughout the year. They can also buy newly launched Nespresso for Change Please coffee blends, available for all three coffee systems – Original, Vertuo and Professional system – allowing all coffee lovers to celebrate the partnership. Accessories such as mugs caps and umbrellas will also be available with a proportion of profits going directly to Change Please.
