The MTV Music Video Awards are set to take place on Wednesday with some of the biggest names in music heading down to the UBS Arena in Elmont, New York, in the hopes of taking home a coveted trophy.

Chappell Roan is set to take to the stage, with Sabrina Carpenter, Camila Cabello, Halsey, Megan Thee Stallion and LL Cool J also among the performers.

It could be a big night for Taylor Swift who is leading the pack with a whopping 10 nominations and will face off against Ariana Grande, Post Malone, Billie Eilish, Eminem and Beyonce for some of the top trophies.

With all the signs suggesting that it will be another fun packed ceremony, we decided to take a stroll down memory lane to unpack some of the wildest, and most legendary, times in VMAs history.

Britney Spears and Madonna (and Christina Aguilera) kiss – 2003

While a LOT has happened since, there is no denying that the kiss between Madonna and Britney – and also Christina Aguilera – has gone on to become the most famous MTV moment ever.

It all began with Brit and Christina uniting on stage for a performance of Like A Virgin when they were joined by the Queen of Pop herself, who lent in for a kiss with the Toxic musician, before doing the same with the Beautiful icon.

The audience members went into meltdown over the scenes, as did those watching on from home, and Madge previously suggested that they could reenact the infamous smooch.

‘Hell yeah. I’ve got to. Stadiums baby,’ she told fans during an Instagram live session in 2022 when asked about future tour plans. ‘Me and Britney, what about that? It would be really cool.

‘We could reenact the original kiss.’

Kanye West interrupts Taylor Swift on stage – 2009

In one of the most famous live TV shocks of all time, everyone was pretty much stunned into silence in 2009 when Taylor Swift won the coveted best video award for You Belong With Me, leading to Kanye West interrupting her on stage during her acceptance speech.

He stormed up in front of the star-studded crowd, grabbed the microphone and declared that Beyonce should have won over her.

‘I’m really happy for you, I’m gonna let you finish, but Beyonce had one of the best videos of all time,’ he uttered as she stood awkwardly beside him, clutching her moon man.

They briefly buried the hatchet and found a friendship when Taylor presented Kanye with the Video Vanguard Award in 2015, but things between the pair turned sour again soon after – the Shake It Off singer appeared to make digs at the rapper and their history during her recent Eras tour.
