Glastonbury Festival is set to take place this weekend and there is one huge band performing that’s been completely overlooked…
Dua Lipa, Coldplay, and Sza are all set to shine on the Pyramid Stage this weekend, as the headline acts were carefully selected to delight audiences.
However, the popularity of these acts pales in comparison to Seventeen, a K-pop band that’s set to make history at the Worthy Farm festival.
The 13-person group sold more than 10 million albums last year. According to the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry, the band was the second most successful recording artist in 2023 – losing out on the top spot to Taylor Swift.
The South Korean band is making history at the festival as the first K-pop group to take to the main stage.
Speaking to the BBC, members of the band said they are eager to ‘blow everybody away.’
‘There’s a great sense of responsibility,’ Choi Seungcheol said, also known as the band leader S Coups. ‘We’ll keep coming back to that feeling and do our best to prepare, so that we can blow everybody away… Not just our fans, but every other member of the audience.’

The band is set to perform on a Friday afternoon in broad daylight, but they remain unfazed.
‘The time of day doesn’t really matter to us, said S Coups.
‘It’s actually even better that we’ll be performing in the afternoon because the audience can see us better under sunlight.’
The band was first formed in 2015 by Pledis Entertainment and is called Seventeen because there are 13 members, three groups within the team and one group -the numbers together add to 17.
The band creates its own music, choreography, and song lyrics internally and is considered to be ‘self-producing’.
Before debuting in the entertainment industry the group appeared on an online show called Seventeen TV which broadcast from 2013 to 2015 and members would leave and join the show each season after various trials and missions.

Speaking to NME, Wen Junhui, known as Jun said their unique band structure is a ‘special appeal’ they will use to ‘blow minds’ at Glastonbury.
‘For those who might be seeing us for the first time, the first thing that would most likely come to their mind is the fact that we have a lot of members,’ he said.
‘I think we can leverage that to show a very special appeal that only we have as a team, as three units [the performance unit, hip-hop unit and vocal unit], and as individual members, so we’ll try to blow their minds with this weapon that we have.’
Seventeen will perform at Glastonbury on June 28 on the Pyramid Stage from 2:45pm to 3:45pm.
