Strictly Come Dancing fans were shocked to learn of contestant Chris McCausland’s surprising 00s TV role.

The BBC show kicked off its 20th season last night with Chris, the first blind contestant ever to compete, hitting the dancefloor for the first time.

The 47-year-old comedian left his fellow contestant and the nation in hysterics, which is hardly surprising following his stints on shows such as Would I Lie To You?, Have I Got News For You, and 8 out of 10 Cats Does Countdown.

But some fans recognised Chris from another show – the 00s TV classic Me Too! where he played Rudi the market trader.

The show, which ran for two series, follows the parents of six children in their day-to-day lives in the fictional city of Riverseafingal in Scotland.

Each episode saw the parents tackle a different problem, switching between them and childminder Granny Murray (Jane McCarry) as she cared for the children before offering a kernel of wisdom at the end of each episode.

The CBeebies show started in 2006 and aired until 2008, with Chris among the cast from its inception until 2007.

As the cheery market trader, Chris also treated viewers to his incredible singing skills as Rudi made his way to work.

Other cast members included Samantha Seager, Elaine McKenzie Ellis, Rosemary Amoani, Donald McLeary, and Matthew McVarish.

Following her time on the show, Seager had roles in Coronation Street, Doctors, and the stage version of Only Fools and Horses.

McKenzie Ellis, who played Tina the taxi lady, appeared in Rab C Nesbitt, while McLeary wrote for the popular BBC podcast Fags, Mags and Bags.
