Believe it or not, but we’ve received a submission nominating Donald Trump as LGTBQ+ celebrity of the year.
The former president was chosen by someone we’ve chosen to remain anonymous as part of the Metro Pride Awards.
Perhaps the most interesting nomination so far has been that of Donald Trump for the category of Celebrity of the Year.
The nominator said: ‘He is an ex president who truly believes that we are all equal. The way he supports the community really brings a tear to my eye, especially when he said he isn’t bothered by someone’s identity. Truly a great man.’
It remains to be seen whether Trump will make the short list for the awards.

‘The Metro Pride Awards is a defining moment for us,’ said Richard Hartley-Parkinson, the executive editor of Metro.
‘We are excited to celebrate those who have made significant contributions not just to the LGBTQ+ community but to society as a whole.’

Trump’s history with the LGBTQ+ community
Trump has come under fire in the past for his stance on issues affecting the LGBTQ+ community.
In 2017, he reinstated a ban on qualified transgender people from serving in the military. At the time, there were roughly 2,500 transgender personnel serving in active duty, and 1,500 in the reserves, according to a Rand Corp. study.
In 2023, Trump vowed to restore the ban.
His administration also overturned health protections for transgender people on the anniversary of the Pulse nightclub massacre.
While in office, his administration also opposed the Equality Act – a piece of legislation which provides discrimination protections for LBGTQ+ people.
Trump did hire multiple members of the LGBTQ+ community in his government, however.
He also appointed a number of judges who hold anti-LGBTQ+ positions. A 2019 report by Lambda Legal found 36% of his appointees expressed bias towards LGBTQ+ people.
Despite his policies relating to the queer community, many LGBTQ+ voters still support Trump.
But LGBTQ+ media organization GLAAD has tallied at least 175 incidents of the Trump administration attacking the gay community.
