A scene in Grimsby town centre was described as ‘total mayhem’ after a car suddenly burst into flames this afternoon.
Shortly after 8am on Friday morning, emergency services were called to Deansgate near St James’ House with reports that a car had caught fire. The area was cordoned off and the road closed to motorists.
Thankfully, police have confirmed that nobody was injured as a result of the incident.
Crews from Humberside Fire and Rescue attended within five minutes to put out the blaze, which has been ruled as accidental.

Shortly after 8am on Friday morning, emergency services were called to Deansgate near St James’ House with reports that a car had caught fire. The area was cordoned off and the road closed to motorists.
Thankfully, police have confirmed that nobody was injured as a result of the incident.

An eyewitness at the scene told GrimsbyLive: ‘The car started smoking and then suddenly a massive explosion happened. It has caused total mayhem and a lot of congestion.’
A spokesperson for Humberside Fire & Rescue said: ‘We received a call at 8.05am this morning to a small car fire in St James Square, Grimsby.
‘Our firefighters were quickly on scene within five minutes to quickly put out the fire. This incident has been handed over to police and we left the scene by 8.30am. This has been labelled as accidental ignition.’
A spokesperson for Humberside Police said: ‘Officers are in attendance on Deansgate in Grimsby after we were called to reports of a car on fire at around 8.10am this morning (Friday 28 June).
‘A road closure was put in place to allow emergency services to work safely. It has since been reopened. No injuries are believed to have been sustained by anyone.’
