A man is in hospital after a plane crashed into a park in Upminster, east London.

The ‘light’ aircraft plummeted out of the sky and into a field along Aveley Road at around 1.10pm.

The crash happened just near Damyns Hall Aerodrome, which offers aerobatic experiences and training and flight experiences.

A male passenger was taken to a major trauma unit at a local hospital. There have been no further updates on his condition.

Photographs first published by EssexLive show an air ambulance at the scene of the crash alongside police and paramedics.

The now mangled plane appeared to have crashed through the wire fence and shrubbery that lined the road.

A police spokesperson said: ‘Officers were called to an area on Aveley Road, Upminster, at 1.08pm on Saturday, September 7 to reports that a light aircraft had crashed.

‘One male passenger was taken to hospital for treatment. We await an update on his condition.’

Damyns Hall Aerodrome has been approached for comment.
