Paddington star Olivia Colman was almost reduced to tears after finally living out her lifelong dream during a recent BBC interview.

The Oscar-winning actress, 50, stars in Paddington in Peru as the Reverend Mother – she helps Ben Whishaw’s cuddly bear character and the Brown family on their journey through the South American country.

And in the third Paddington film, the follow-up to the acclaimed and celebrated Paddington 2, Olivia stars opposite Spanish actor Antonio Banderas.

While doing a press junket for the film, which hit cinemas on Friday, Olivia was given the chance to fulfil a childhood dream – and she just about kept herself composed.

Presenter Shini Muthukrishnan was speaking with the pair when she revealed they would both be receiving coveted Blue Peter badges – and Olivia was more than delighted.

‘Oh my God, it’s happening!’, she beamed, while her co-star Antonio looked on in bewilderment, having not grown up with Blue Peter on the TV.

Blue Peter badges originated on the kids’ show of the same name, which began all the way back in 1958, making it the longest-running children’s programme in the world.

The badges were handed out as special prizes to people – children or adults – who came on the show having achieved something notable or special.

Many were handed out over the years and securing one was the dream of any child who grew up watching BBC TV during the 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s.

‘I can’t tell you,’ she said to Antonio. ’50 years I’ve wanted one of these! The amount of things I sent into Blue Peter [to get a badge in return].’

She continued, saying: ‘I want to photograph this and send it to all my friends and family. My brother will be so jealous!’, before explaining to Antonio that you have to ‘work really hard’ to earn a Blue Peter badge.

The occasion was particularly serendipitous when it was revealed that the badge’s colours matched those of Olivia’s outfit almost exactly.

Throughout the exchange between the former Peep Show actress and Shini, Antonio appeared to be a little confused about the significance of a Blue Peter badge.
