One of the most famous psychological thrillers in film history has just been added to Netflix.
1987’s Fatal Attraction, starring Michael Douglas and Glenn Close and directed by Adrian Lyne, has long been regarded as one of the most twisting and suspenseful movies of its kind.
The plot of the film follows Dan Gallagher (Douglas), a man with an idyllic life complete with a wife and daughter. But things start to deteriorate after Dan has an affair with an editor named Alex (Close) who systematically begins to destroy Dan’s life.
Nominated for six Oscars including Best Picture, Fatal Attraction is equal parts sexy and terrifying, with a plot so tight and well written it’s often remembered as an example of a perfect script.
It was also a major commercial success, grossing over $320million (£) worldwide and becoming the second highest-grossing film of the year in the US.
It also helped to cement Douglas and Close as heavyweight actors capable of the nuanced emotional complexity displayed in the film.

Some even credit the movie with sparking the ‘erotic thriller boom’ of the late 1980s to the mid 1990s, with movies like Basic Instinct and Indecent Proposal following in it’s footsteps.

Now, fan’s of the movie can easily stream the classic on Netflix, and a whole new generation can experience the movie that made the phrase ‘bunny boiler’ synonymous with an unhinged woman.
Fatal Attraction has also been a topic of much cultural conversation since its release, with even Close herself saying that she thinks her character was badly misunderstood.
In 2016 interview with Entertainment Weekly, Close said: ‘I felt from all my research, I just didn’t think she was a psychopath, I thought she was a deeply disturbed woman.’
