A man died in a freak accident while hanging Christmas lights at a home.

Antonio Pascual Mateo, 24, was putting up lights at a client’s home on Thursday in Escondido, California, when he threw a string over a powerline.

‘Sadly he was electrocuted by the power lines, as he was fixing the Christmas lights,’ wrote Juan Pascual in a GoFundMe page for his funeral arrangements in Guatemala.

Mateo fell and was trapped on the tree for an hour.

‘Rescue team was forced to wait until the power company had to turn off power. To late to save, forever young he will remain,’ Pascual wrote.

‘Christmas lights forever having a meaning to us, he will remain in our hearts for eternity.’

Mateo was working on putting the lights on the roof and came in contact with a ‘high voltage powerline’, according to the San Diego County Medical Examiner.

An onlooker called 911 and first responders found him ‘hanging upside down from a tree’, stated the medical examiner.

Paramedics administered advanced cardiovascular support and rushed Mateo to the closest hospital. Despite ‘aggressive resuscitative efforts’, he was pronounced dead at Palomar Medical Center.

His cause of death was high voltage electrocution, and the manner was an accident.

Mateo was a son, brother and uncle and always cared for his mother and family.

‘He had so much to live, only 24 years old,’ stated the GoFundMe page.

‘He had been working on putting up Christmas lights around the tree.’

The GoFundMe page to transport Mateo to his birthplace for his mother to receive him had raised more than $14,000 as of Wednesday afternoon.

Mateo died three months after a teenage girl was electrocuted to death after stepping on her family’s camper in Ohio with bare feet after it had rained. Fire officials told her grieving family that the camper was unplugged and that there were no burn marks on the door, but they believe her freak death was due to electrocution.
