I tried the £7.95 mega sandwich that caused such a stir the police were called

Pret has been the go-to for a quick lunch for as long as we can remember, with sandwiches, wraps, and salads all waiting to be snapped up.

But following the furore over the subscription change (RIP free coffees), many have had to find somewhere else to go for their lunch, and there’s one shop that’s been hailed as the chain’s replacement in London.

Sandwich Sandwich, a family-run business, has gone viral online, garnering more than 200,000 followers on Instagram for its mammoth sarnies, which reviews claim are the ‘size of a small child’ and can weigh up to one kilo.

The original shop is located in Bristol, but it proved so successful that owners expanded with a store in London — and they’ve just announced a second location in the capital, that’s set to be the biggest sandwich shop in the UK.

According to their Instagram post, this new spot will be ‘3500 sq ft of sandwich heaven’, and is set to open in either December 2024 or January 2025.

Is It Worth Queueing For? Sandwich Sandwich officially opened in London in the last few weeks and we finally got a chance to visit. I’ve never waited an hour and a half for a meal before, not even at a restaurant, so the expectations were sky high! Straight off the bat, the southern fried chicken is a clear winner. Lots of sauce, nice and hot, and all the bits were falling out in all the right ways. The roast beef was solid but I saw they had some for grab and go, no point waiting if you can just pop in and grab a pre-made one. They also didn’t cut our sandwiches in half for that lovely cross section, I guess you have to ask for it? ???? The hot stack is really nice and you can also skip the queue for a hot meal order! Made with similar ingredients to the sandwiches, my only suggestion is try and get some extra sauce to slather it in. ???? I’m gutted they were sold out of the award winning cheesecake, but the crodough (a name I’d not heard before) did make for an after lunch treat. Also to clarify: I didn’t eat all of this in one go, it was shared and savoured, one sandwich is more than enjoy for a single person. At £9 for most options you’re good with just one. . . #SandwichSandwich #CityofLondon #OneCityLDN
