For 42-year-old Estella Newbold-Brown, Glastonbury Festival is one of her ‘great loves.’ So, after years of planning to take her there, it made sense for her to propose to her now-wife on Worthy Farm.

Before Estella met Faye nine years ago, she had no idea that she was gay – but they connected straight away, and everything fell into place.

‘I remember I knew instantly that she was the one and not having any issues with the fact that she is a woman,’ Estella, who lives in south-east London, tells Metro.co.uk. ‘This is despite me growing up my entire life dating men and thinking that I would marry a man and that he would be the one who would propose to me.’

Before the pair got engaged, Faye had mentioned that in all of her previous relationships, there had been an assumption that she would be the one to propose.

She wasn’t sure why – but this ended up fuelling Estella’s desire to be the one to pop the question.

‘It’s such a special place for me. People are so friendly there, and there are funky and random things happening all the time. It’s just full of everything I love.’

Before they left for the festival, the pair went to visit Faye’s parents. Her sister had managed to distract Faye upstairs with discussions of camping equipment, and so Estella took the moment to ask for their blessing.

‘My brother-in-law gave me some good advice, and said that if I was going to propose, to make sure that that I didn’t do it drunk,’ she laughs.

On the day that they arrived at Glastonbury, the weather was scorching, and so Estella initially thought that this would be the perfect opportunity to get down on one knee.

However, Faye hated the heat and was ‘struggling’ all day after lugging their camping equipment for miles, so she decided to abort the mission and try again another day.

The next day, she seized the moment. Calling on the advice of a friend who had joined them, Estella was conferring with him throughout the day as to where …read more
