Gogglebox viewers were left doing a double take after Ellie and Izzi Warner introduced an unusual pet on screen.

The sisters from Leeds have appeared as couch critics on the long-running Channel 4 series since 2015.

Over the years they’ve introduced viewers to new additions to their family, however the most recent left some scratching their heads.

On the latest episode of the series, Ellie, 35, was seen holding a chicken in her lap.

Seemingly unfazed by the addition of the animal to their living room, Izzi made it clear she was keen to hold the bird.

‘Right so tell me, how do I hold a chicken?’ she said before her sister gave a demonstration, explaining by showing her how to hold her index fingers.

Making sure she was doing it correctly, Izzi jumped in and asked: ‘Are these my index fingers.’

Ellie then pointed out: ‘No it’s the two middle fingers and then the other two outer fingers go the other side of the legs.’

Seeing Izzi was struggling with the instructions Ellie then suggested putting the chicken on the floor and it then being picked up.

However, Izzi then got nervous about the task at hand and backed out.

‘Actually, no I can’t do it. I can’t pick up a chicken,’ she explained.

Although she went on to try, the chicken started to flap its wings and Ellie had to step in.

‘That’s what I’m scared of!’ Izzi declared.

Perplexed by what they had just witnessed, many viewers questioned the strange scenes on social media.

‘What on Earth are Ellie and Izzi doing with a live chicken,’ user MitchellWebb85 posted on X.

‘Why the f do they have a chicken? And are they going to eat it?’ MadgeHooks questioned.

‘Just a random chicken in the front room, as you do,’ josh_earl3 added.

Another jokingly considered if the chicken was the sister’s ‘next course’.

Gogglebox airs Friday at 9pm on Channel 4.
