Four years after he was mysteriously banned from Twitch, Dr Disrespect has denied allegations that his removal was due to sending explicit messages to a minor.

Back in June 2020, Herschel ‘Guy’ Beahm, better known as Dr Disrespect, was banned from Twitch and no one has ever explained why.

At the time, Twitch stated that the streaming personality had ‘acted in violation’ of its community guidelines or terms of service, but no specific reason was given – which isn’t unusual when they ban people.

Four years later, former Twitch employees have spoken out about the ban, claiming that Beahm was permanently removed from the platform after being caught sexting a minor through Whispers, Twitch’s now-defunct messaging system.

Cody Conners, a former Twitch employee who worked in strategic partnerships, made the claims in a post on Twitter. ‘He got banned because [he] got caught sexting a minor in the then existing Twitch whispers product. He was trying to meet up with her at TwitchCon. The powers that be could read in plain text.’

While Conners did not name Beahm specifically, it’s understood that he’s the subject of the post. The claims were also corroborated by another anonymous former Twitch employee, who mirrored the same allegations to The Verge.

Case closed, gang.

Following the allegations, Beahm has denied any wrongdoing. ‘This has been settled, no wrongdoing was acknowledged and they paid out the whole contract,’ he wrote on Twitter.

In another statement, he added: ‘Listen, I’m obviously tied to legal obligations from the settlement with Twitch but I just need to say what I can since this is the f***ing internet. I didn’t do anything wrong, all this has been probed and settled, nothing illegal, no wrongdoing was found, and I was paid.’

At the time of his ban, Beahm had over 6 million followers on Twitch. A few months prior, he had signed a two-year exclusivity deal to remain as a streamer on the platform.

In an interview with The Washington Post, shortly after the ban, Beahm claimed he, at the time, didn’t know the reason why Twitch voided his contract.

‘Honestly, we just don’t know,’ he said. ‘It was a total shock. Imagine showing up to work and the doors are closed and you can’t get inside. You’re going, ‘What’s going on?’ And you’ve been told you’ve been fired. But you haven’t been told the …read more
