Newton Faulkner has announced he will be playing at Glastonbury Festival 2024.

The Dream Catch Me folk rocker, 39, didn’t know he had a prime Saturday slot at the Worthy Farm festival – kicking off on Wednesday June 26 – until just this week.

But taking to social media the All I Got hitmaker made the surprise announcement, as he wrote: ‘If you asked me last week if I was playing @glastonbury I would have said sadly not but if you asked me now I’d say HELL YEA, SATURDAY 21:40-22:40 ON THE AVALON STAGE!!!!!! @FieldOfAvalon.’

Newton took the charts by storm in 2007 on the release of his debut album Hand Built by Robots, which climbed to number one on the charts and was certified double platinum in the UK.

This is not a first for Newton, who has played Glastonbury several times before in the noughties and at last year’s festival.

Unfortunately though, Newton’s Saturday night set clashes with Coldplay, who will be headlining on the Pyramid Stage alongside Dua Lipa and SZA, with Shania Twain taking the Sunday afternoon legends slot.

Glastonbury will open its doors on Wednesday 26 June, with DJ sets and various lesser-known performers entertaining revellers until the main acts begin on Friday.

Dua Lipa will be headlining the bill on Friday, with Coldplay on Saturday and SZA taking to the stage on Sunday.

If you’re not one of the 200,000 people to have bagged a ticket, much of the festival will be broadcast on the BBC, with Dua Lipa and Coldplay’s sets available to livestream globally for the first time ever.

Meanwhile, after the Foo Fighters’ electric surprise set last year under the pseudonym The Churnups, many are wondering which surprise music legend or legends will grace the stage this year.

There are various slots still to be announced on the line-up, most prominently at 6pm Saturday on Woodsies Stage, famed for indie rock and pop.

Speculation is rife this or other mystery slots could be filled with rock legends Kings of Leon, who are already in the UK playing at Hyde Park in London on Sunday, Kasabian, The XX, or The Killers.

Others rumoured are Blue, Glass Animals, Liam Gallagher, Tame Impala, Placebo, Pulp and Weezer.

In the past, these slots have been taken by icons including Lady Gaga and Harry Styles – so it’s likely many will flock to these stages despite not knowing who they will be going to see.

Weather-wise, Glastonbury goers are set for a dry weekend with a mixture of sun and cloud and temperatures in the low to mid 20s.
