The makers of The Witcher have praised FromSoftware after Elden Ring’s Shadow Of The Erdtree expansion became the highest-rated DLC ever.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is widely regarded as having two of the best expansions ever made, with Hearts Of Stone and Blood & Wine.

The latter previously held the record for the most critically acclaimed DLC ever on Metacritic, with a score of 92. As of this week though, it has been superseded by Elden Ring’s newly launched expansion Shadow Of The Erdtree, which holds a score of 95.

To commemorate the passing of the DLC crown, The Witcher developer CD Projekt has invested a surprising amount of effort into toasting FromSoftware’s achievement.

In a post on Twitter, the official Twitter account for The Witcher shared some artwork showing Geralt Of Rivia slaying Mohg, Lord Of Blood – the Elden Ring boss that every player needs to beat to access the Shadow Of The Erdtree DLC.

Along with the artwork, which is made by one of the artists at CD Projekt, the account wrote: ‘For the last eight years, The Witcher 3: Blood & Wine had the honour of being the best reviewed expansion for a role-playing game – but Elden Ring gets to wear that crown now.

The account also posted a screenshot showing a ‘live view’ of developers at CD Projekt trying to beat Mohg in anticipation of the DLC.

Along with Blood & Wine, Destiny 2: The Final Shape (on PlayStation 5) and Xenoblade Chronicles 3: Future Redeemed hold the same 92 score on the review aggregate site. You can check out a list of some of the highest-rated DLC below.

CD Projekt is currently working on a new game in The Witcher series, codenamed Polaris, which was announced via a logo in 2022. It’s planned as the first in a new trilogy, with full production set to kick off in the second half of 2024.

A remake of the very first The Witcher game will come before that but CD Projekt are only overseeing that, with development being handled by new studio Fool’s Theory.
