The British influencer who plunged to his death while attempting to scale Spain’s tallest bridge has been named as Lewis Stevenson.

The 26-year-old fell from the 630ft Castilla-La Mancha bridge in Talavera de la Reina, a 90-minute drive south-west of Madrid, on Sunday.

His grandad Clifford Stevenson tragically revealed the family ‘all tried to talk him out of’ his latest stunt.

Lewis’s heartbroken girlfriend Savannah Parker led tributes to him, calling his death a ‘nightmare’, while fellow daredevils hailed ‘the bravest, most caring and funny person I’ve ever known’.

He showcased his ‘rooftopping’ exploits on his Instagram page, with photos showing him atop a New York skyscraper and perched on a meta beam overlooking the City of London.

Speaking of his grandson’s death from the family home in Derby, Mr Stevenson, 70, told MailOnline: ‘We all tried to talk him out of it. We were always trying to talk him out of doing things but that was the way he was.

‘He loved doing it, always went out there believing he’d be alright. He did what he did for his own pleasure. He did not get any money for it – he was an adventurer.’

Paying tribute on Instagram, fellow rooftopper Louie_W1 wrote: ‘Knowing you has been one of the greatest privileges of my life.

‘And losing you is the greatest sadness of my life. No amount of words on a stupid Instagram post will ever describe how much I miss you.

‘You will always be the bravest, most caring and funny person I’ve ever known. I’m proud of every building, every rooftop, every moment of our time together.

‘My best friend, my brother. Rest easy, we’ll meet again one day.’

Another daredevil with the handle Vil1iany wrote: ‘You’ve been a prominent figure to me for a while and your fearless mentality will stick with me for the rest of my life.

‘It was a pleasure to be considered one of your friends, rest easy now brother, I’ll see you in another life.’

Lewis is thought to have been with a 24-year-old fellow Brit when he died. According to the Mail he is believed to be in shock at the tragedy but unlikely to face any charges.

The Talavera de la Reina Town Council reiterated after the accident that climbing the bridge ‘is totally prohibited and cannot be done under any circumstances’.

The Castilla-La Mancha is a cable-stayed bridge featuring 152 wire ropes which was opened on October 17 2011, and cost nearly £62 million to build.
