A 15-year-old boy has died after collapsing during a school football match in Manchester.
The schoolboy had been playing in a game at Ashton and Mersey School for Sale High School on Tuesday evening when he collapsed.
A note from the school confirmed that the boy later died ‘despite all efforts of the staff and the emergency services.’
The boy who died is yet to be named, but was a year 11 pupil at Sale High School, a note sent to parents by bosses at Ashton on Mersey School confirmed.
Teachers at Sale High School shared their ‘deep sadness’ at the news of the boy’s death.
A message sent from Ashton on Mersey school head Mr McConaghie to parents read ‘It is with deep sadness that I write to you with information about a serious incident that took place at Ashton on Mersey School on Tuesday evening.
‘During a Year 11 football match a pupil from Sale High School collapsed.
‘I have subsequently been informed that the pupil has tragically died despite all the efforts of the staff and the emergency services.
‘The thoughts and condolences of the Ashton on Mersey School community are with the family and friends of the pupil.’
The school added all extra-curricular sports activities would be cancelled for the rest of the week.
Sale High School are yet to comment on their pupil’s death.
