A bizarre monolith has randomly appeared on top of a hill in the US countryside – and it’s not the first time this has happened recently.

This particular 8ft-tall mirrored structure was first spotted atop one of many peaks that adorn the stunning northern Colorado landscape on Sunday morning by a local cafe manager.

It comes just one month after a practically identical structure mysteriously popped up some 850 miles away in the desert near Las Vegas.

Just days after it was discovered, people are already coming from far and wide to see it, says Brooke Williams, who runs the Howling Cow Cafe in the small agricultural community of Bellvue on the far outskirts of Fort Collins.

The 23-year-old said she first noticed the monument off in the distance when something shiny caught her eye, but she wasn’t sure exactly what it was.

‘I was walking into the cafe on Sunday morning enjoying the beautiful landscape when I noticed something on top of a hill,’ she told NeedToKnow.

‘I have worked here for three years now and there are always things you pass every day, but don’t see, so I didn’t think twice about it and went on with my morning.

‘As we opened a woman came into the cafe with her husband ecstatic and asking about “the alien structure”.

‘I was confused and had no clue what she was referencing so she showed me a post she’d seen on social media about a monolith.

‘She went on to tell me about similar structures that have appeared around the United States and what they were.’

It was then that Brooke realised exactly what the customer was referring to and went to visit herself.

Brooke said: ‘I slipped away to go take a closer look and make sure I was correct about what I saw.

‘It was indeed a monolith.’

The strange monolith, which is bolted to a concrete pad, mirrored on all sides and lies on a stretch of land mainly used by hikers, has drawn visitors from all over the US this week.

‘We are not aware of who put it there or where it came from,’ added Brooke. ‘No one has come forward.

‘The question is what is this thing? A monolith, sculpture, structure, local art piece or alien?’

Last month, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department shared photos of a different ‘mysterious monolith’ that was found on Gass Peak.

And just one week ago, the force confirmed they had removed the structure due to ‘public safety and environmental concerns’.
