Amazon customers have been left furious after discovering a major change to home deliveries for those who don’t use Prime.

The online retailer has quietly raised the price of the minimum spend requirement, in order to qualify for free shipping.

The minimum spend was previously £25, but shoppers will now have to pay £35 in order to get free delivery on their items.

Amazon has been a little vague about the reason for this, claiming the £10 increase is due to a ‘number of external factors’.

Understandably, shoppers aren’t too happy about the price going up, with some branding the £35 minimum spend ‘ridiculous’ and ‘extortionate’.

On X (formerly Twitter), @lfcynwa1968 posted: ‘When did Amazon delivery go up to £25! Ridiculous.’ While @Cocobay_Rum thought it was criminal, furiously saying: ‘Wow! Last year Amazon put their price point up to £25 to qualify for free delivery. They’ve now just put it up to £35! The thieving b******s.’

@AmazonUK @AmazonHelp I get that Amazon want to push prime to non members but now adding an extra tenner to spend £35 for free delivery is a bit extortionate. 🙄

‘I’ve just found out the Amazon free delivery threshold for things other than books has increased from £25 to £35. That’s a big hike,’ said @lyndseyfeakes.

‘Amazon have some nerve,’ proclaimed @ryanricardo76, as @InekseClewer admitted it was ‘quite a leap’ in price, and @caseymoo7 wrote: ‘I get that Amazon want to push prime to non members but now adding an extra tenner to spend £35 for free delivery is a bit extortionate.’

Several shoppers did point out that aside from forking out £95 a year for an Amazon Prime Membership (£8.99 a month), there was another way to try and avoid increased costs.

Instead of paying more for home delivery, you could instead order your items to be collected from a pickup location or an Amazon locker nearby. However, this won’t work for everyone as not all items are available to be collected.

Alternatively, you could opt for Prime, but even with this you’ll incur a £1.99 delivery fee if you wanted to nab your order on same-day delivery, if it’s total comes under £20.

Speaking to The Sun, an Amazon spokesperson said: ‘There are a number of external factors influencing shipping costs right now.

‘We are constantly innovating and working to bring more value to our customers, and customers who are not Prime member will receive free shipping on all orders above £35.

‘Prime members will continue to benefit from unlimited, fast, free One-Day Delivery on …read more
