This time, it was all LAFC.
The Earthquakes surrendered four goals in the first 42 minutes on Saturday night at BMO Stadium in Los Angeles and fell to LAFC 6-2 in a Major League Soccer match.
San Jose lost its fourth game in a row, falling this time to a team it defeated 3-1 at Levi’s Stadium on May 4.
The Quakes have gone winless in their past eight matches.
Rodrigues and Benji Kikanović scored on Saturday for San Jose, but it was not nearly enough to overcome the early four-goal deficit.
“Obviously disappointing result,” Quakes coach Luchi Gonzalez said. “Didn’t compete, especially in the first half, in the sense of duels, in the sense of defensive recovery runs — knowing this is a good team, very dynamic offensively. We did have control of the ball equally as them early in the game, led to getting into their half. But lacked quality.
“It was nowhere near our standard.”
Mateusz Bogusz opened the scoring when he converted a cross from Sergi Palencia to give LAFC a 1-0 advantage in the 15th minute. The home team widened the margin to 2-0 when Denis Bouanga scored in the 26th minute.
Kei Kamara’s goal in the 33rd minute stretched the advantage to 3-0 and Ryan Hollingshead’s unassisted goal in the 42nd minute made it 4-0.
Rodrigues’ goal in first-half stoppage time closed the margin to 4-1.
After Bogusz scored his second goal of the match in the 48th minute, Kikanović found the back of the net for San Jose nine minutes later to bring the Quakes to within 5-2.
Tomas Angel’s goal for LAFC in the 87th minute completed the scoring, delighting an announced crowd of 22,146.

The Quakes fell to 3-14-2. LAFC is 11-4-4.
San Jose will now set its sights on the annual California Clasico against the Los Angeles Galaxy this Saturday at Stanford Stadium.
The Quakes are celebrating their 50th anniversary this week dating to the franchise’s start in the North American Soccer League in 1974.
