Pedestrian dead in East Bay after being hit by a car


ANTIOCH — A 71-year-old Antioch man walking on an Antioch road died Sunday night after being hit by a vehicle, police said.

The fatal collision happened about 10:35 p.m. on Lone Tree Way near Black Diamond Drive, according to a statement from Antioch police. Authorities did not identify the man immediately Tuesday morning.

The vehicle’s driver stayed at the scene and spoke with officers, and police said they do not believe that the crash was caused by driving under the influence of any substance. The man who was hit died at the scene.

According to police, the man was in the crosswalk when the vehicle hit him. Police said he was walking there despite a “no walk” signal. They are looking for anyone who witnessed the crash and asked anyone who may have seen it or the moments leading up to it to contact Officer Josh Egan at jegan@antiochca.gov.
