More cooling centers open as the Bay Area heats up

With excessive heat warnings in place until Tuesday, cities all across the Bay Area are turning public spaces into cooling centers for residents to beat the heat.

According to the National Weather Service, an excessive heat warning for inland areas was put in effect until July 9. For coastal cities, a heat advisory was announced to last until July 9, but the advisory in San Francisco is expected to end July 4.

Public safety officials urged people to keep hydrated and stay indoors and in air conditioned places as much as possible.

Several counties announced public cooling centers to deal with the heat. The Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority also said that it would be offering free rides on buses and the light rail system to designated cooling centers in the county through the weekend.

Here is a list of cooling centers around the region. Unless otherwise noted, the cooling centers will be closed on Thursday, July 4 and Sunday, July 7.
