The Sunnyvale School District is starting the school year with a new principal at Vargas Elementary School and new assistant principals at Cumberland Elementary, Ellis Elementary and Sunnyvale Middle School.
New Vargas principal Manny Villalpando comes to Sunnyvale from the Alum Rock School District, where he served as a middle school principal. He has also been an elementary school principal in both the Oak Grove School District and the Roseville City School District.
Kelly Mack is Cumberland’s new assistant principal. As a teacher she won several awards, including Middle School Teacher of the Year in 2018 for the Campbell Union School District, and the District SPIRIT Award for Integrity in 2011 and Elementary Teacher of the Year in 2006 from Franklin-McKinley School District.

Stephanie Malcolm will be the next assistant principal of Ellis Elementary School after serving as the assistant principal of Sunnyvale Middle School for the past six years. Malcolm began her career as a substitute special education para-educator in the Sunnyvale School District. Since that time, she has served as a special day class teacher, resource specialist, and instructional coach before moving into administration.
Assistant principal Allison Crawford comes to Sunnyvale Middle School from Gunderson High School in San Jose, where she has served for the past four years as assistant principal of curriculum and instruction. The majority of her career has been spent at the middle school level with the Oak Grove School District in San Jose, where she taught seventh- and eighth-grade mathematics and served as a middle school instructional coach for four years.
