SAN JOSE — A new Chick-fil-A restaurant project is pushing forward in San Jose, a proposal that has for the first time sketched out the size and seating capacity for the dining establishment.
The proposed Chick-fil-A fast-food establishment would be located at 1301 West San Carlos Street in San Jose, four miles from the mega retail and restaurant hubs of Westfield Valley Fair and Santana Row.

The Chick-fil-A would have 78 seats, according to a development permit proposal on file with San Jose city officials.
The restaurant would total slightly over 5,100 square feet, the new plans show.

The project would occupy a 1.1-acre site at West San Carlos Street and Race Street. Images, concepts and site plans included in the new proposal show the restaurant would be highly visible from both streets.
The property previously was the location of a Burger King restaurant and drive-through site. The Burger King closed several years ago and the building has been torn down.
If approved, the project would trigger the demolition of a surface parking lot and a small commercial building with some retailers and a taqueria.
Chick-fil-A appears to be in expansion mode in the Bay Area, including in San Jose.
The fast-food restaurant company has a location at San Jose International Airport.
Separately, in October 2023, Chick-fil-A paid $4.5 million for a parcel near the corner of Silver Creek Road and East Capitol Expressway in southeast San Jose. The site is next to a Target store.
The Silver Creek Road Chick-fil-A is under construction, according to a direct observation of that site by this news organization.

As for the upcoming West San Carlos Street Chick-fil-A, the time frame for the start of construction of that restaurant or when it might open wasn’t immediately clear.
The proposal on file with San Jose officials shows that vehicles would use Race Street to both enter and exit the restaurant site. It wasn’t clear whether a drive-through option is included.
The proposal didn’t disclose how many people might be employed at the West San Carlos Street Chick-fil-A. The number of jobs at the under-construction Chick-fil-A isn’t known.
It wasn’t clear whether Chick-fil-A aims to buy the 1301 West San Carlos site.
A trust whose trustee is Rosemary Zotta owns the three parcels that make up the project property, Santa Clara County real estate records show.
