Shawn Moayer was taken into custody Wednesday at a residence in the 32000 block of Endeavour Way in Union City, the Hayward Police Department said in a news release.

Moayer’s 59-year-old father was also arrested on suspicion of being an accessory after the fact.

The homicide happened around 3:25 p.m. on Aug. 26 in the 22000 block of Santa Clara Street, police said. Officers arrived to find a man suffering from gunshot wounds.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene. He was later identified as Matthew Beck, 36, of Hayward.

Detectives quickly identified Moayer as a suspect in the fatal shooting, police said.

During the investigation, detectives determined Moayer’s father had “knowingly aided, concealed and harbored” Moayer to keep him from being arrested, police said.

Both men were booked into Santa Rita Jail, where they remained Thursday, police said.

“Our thoughts remain with the family and loved ones of Mr. Beck as they continue to grieve,” police Chief Bryan Matthews said in a statement. “We hope these arrests mark a meaningful step in their journey toward healing and justice for Mr. Beck and his family.”
