8 of the world’s greatest places, according to Time magazine

This summer, Time Magazine drew up a list of the world’s 100 greatest places, a global collection of 100 destinations and hotels that’s pretty much guaranteed to stir wanderlust. Half the list is devoted to hotels and resorts, including Guerneville’s Mine + Farm Inn. The rest showcases destinations — museums, restaurants, landmarks — that offer something extraordinary.

The eclectic list runs the gamut from a minimalist tea house in Santiago, Chile, to a floating restaurant-meets-sustainable education center in a Norwegian fjord. There’s a Moroccan culinary museum in Marrakech, and the revival of the Baths of Caracalla in Rome, where not only is water flowing for the first time in 1,500 years, a stage lets theater and dance performances unfold among the water jets and dramatic lights.

Lahaina’s Maui Cultural Lands got a nod for its programs that encourage visitors to set down their mai tais and give back in the most practical way possible. One of the oldest indigenous-owned nonprofits in the area, Maui Cultural Lands takes volunteers out to work on archaeological sites, forests and watersheds.

And Palm Springs’ Agua Caliente Cultural Plaza, which opened last year, is noted for the way its 48,000-square-foot museum immerses visitors in that tribal nation’s culture and history.

Here’s a peek at eight U.S. destinations that made the list. Find the full collection at https://time.com.
