Skip Bayless Just Said What Everyone Was Thinking About the Chicago Bears

It wasn’t pretty. It wasn’t clean. And for most of the night, it didn’t even feel possible.

But after one of the most chaotic BearsPackers games ever (Bears win probability was as low as 0.5%), the Chicago Bears were the ones still standing.

A 10 point fourth quarter deficit vanished. An onside kick flipped the night. And overtime delivered the final blow when Caleb Williams found DJ Moore for the walk-off touchdown.

Moments after the dust settled, Skip Bayless summed up what suddenly felt impossible to ignore:

That’s right, the Chicago Bears are a serious Super Bowl threat.

It Never Should’ve Come to This

As wild as the ending was, the uncomfortable truth is that the game never should have even reached that point.

Cause the Packers lost Jordan Love to a concussion in the second quarter, forcing Malik Willis into action. From that moment on, the Chicago Bears had every reason to seize control and for nearly three full quarters… They did the opposite, managing just six points through the first 58 minutes.

But then Cairo Santos drilled a 43 yard field goal. Josh Blackwell recovered a critical onside kick. And finally Caleb Williams calmly lofted a perfect touchdown to undrafted rookie Jahdae Walker with 24 seconds left to tie the game before finding DJ Moore on a moon ball in overtime to seal the win.

Caleb Williams’ final stat line of 19 of 34 for 250 yards and two touchdowns doesn’t fully capture the command he showed when the game demanded it most.

Cause in overtime, after Malik Willis fumbled a fourth and 1 snap and handed Chicago the ball at the Packers’ 36, there was no hesitation. Four plays later, Williams uncorked a deep strike to DJ Moore, perfectly placed despite tight coverage… Ballgame.

A Team That Expects to Win

But the most interesting part of this Bears run wasn’t the results but rather the reaction. Cause before the onside kick recovery, players on the sideline weren’t hoping. They were predicting.

“We’re never out of it,” Blackwell said. “Guys on the sideline were like, ‘We’re fine. We’re going to score right here, get an onside kick, score again and we’ll win.’”

That mentality has shown up all season. Chicago now has six wins after trailing in the final two minutes, the most in the NFL. This one just so happened to come against Green Bay with the NFC North lead on the line.

“This is a special group,” coach Ben Johnson said. “I felt that early in the season. You get with some of those wins — the Raiders game and the Washington game — and you start feeling it, the belief coming. This group — I’m talking about coaches and players combined — it’s rare. It really is.”

Calling the Bears a “serious Super Bowl threat” would’ve drawn laughter a few months ago (especially after the 0-2 start). Even now, skeptics will point to youth, inconsistency, and narrow margins.

But while Chicago hasn’t exactly dominated opponents, they’ve shown they can:

  • Win close games
  • Execute under pressure
  • Trust a rookie quarterback in defining situations
  • Create chaos on special teams
  • Finish against rivals

Those are postseason traits, and Skip Bayless didn’t sugarcoat what the Bears are capable of.
