Ground stops, delays ‘probable’ at DIA during Wednesday windstorm

Flight delays are expected Wednesday afternoon at Denver International Airport as strong winds move into the metro area and Eastern Plains.

As of 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, 81 flights headed in and out of DIA were delayed and 3 were canceled, according to flight tracking software FlightAware.

Ground stops and ground delays are “probable” at the Denver airport after 1 p.m. Wednesday, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.

At that time, steady winds of up to 25 mph and 40 mph wind gusts are forecast for the airport, hourly forecasts from the National Weather Service show.

Denver delays at 12:30 p.m. included 28 Southwest flights, 23 United flights and 19 SkyWest flights. Six other airlines delayed between one and three flights.
