Yankees-Brewers Trade Idea Sends 2-Time All-Star Starter to New York in Exchange for Will Warren

Many are wondering when the New York Yankees will get going this offseason via either trades or signing free agents. The New York team from the Bronx operates under a microscope, but Brian Cashman and the rest of the front office are under added pressure once again this winter after not advancing past the ALDS.

There are two ways the Yankees can make big splashes this offseason: by signing top free agents or making a massive offseason trade or two. The trade market has a plethora of players who would make any MLB organization better, and a recent wild trade idea has the Yankees acquiring Milwaukee Brewers‘ starter Freddy Peralta.

MLB Insider Proposes Massive Freddy Peralta to the Yankees Trade Idea

This trade idea would certainly shake up the MLB world. The Milwaukee Brewers are known for offloading their top players before having to sign them to long-term extensions, and starter Freddy Peralta has just one year left of team control, which makes him a subject of trade rumors in the early goings of the winter months.

MLB insider Jim Bowden recently released his “Winter Meeting Wish List”, and one wild trade idea he proposed includes Freddy Peralta heading to the Bronx:

New York Yankees

GettyTrade pitch has Yankees acquiring Freddy Peralta in blockbuster.

“Peralta helps the Yankees weather the beginning of the season while some of their returning starters recover from surgeries, and then gives them a dangerous arm down the stretch to pair with Gerrit Cole, Carlos Rodón and others. The Brewers get a young, controllable starter and a shortstop who can give them better offensive production than they received from Joey Ortiz in 2025.”

In the trade idea, the Yankees would send the Brewers Will Warren and Jose Caballero. New York may have to throw a prospect or two in the deal to complete the blockbuster trade, but offloading Warren and Caballero seems fair.

Freddy Peralta is a Certified Ace

Freddy Peralta is becoming a certified ace across MLB. He has three straight seasons of 200+ strikeouts, and has made 30+ starts in all of those seasons, dating back to 2023.

2025 might have been his best season as a starter in his career. Peralta posted a 2.70 ERA in 176.2 innings and 204 strikeouts, while being named to his second All-Star team, and finishing top-5 in NL Cy Young voting.

This would be a huge splash for the Yankees, and a move that they need to make in order to keep pace with other AL East teams that have already been active in the player market since free agency opened.

For the Brewers, getting rid of Peralta may suck in the short-term, but Milwaukee is unlikely to sign him once he becomes a free agent, so maximizing the value now is a logical option.

As the Winter Meetings commence, it will be interesting to see what rumors surround the Yankees’ surface, as New York is bound to get going this offseason in terms of making its roster better.
