Raging Bull roller coaster at Six Flags Great America closed after death at Georgia location

Raging Bull, a roller coaster at Six Flags Great America in Gurnee, is temporarily closed following a fatal incident involving a roller coaster at Six Flags Over Georgia that left one person dead and several others injured.

A Six Flags Great America spokesperson confirmed the closure to the Chicago Sun-Times on Tuesday and said there is no timeline for reopening.

“Out of an abundance of caution, we have temporarily closed similar attractions across our parks,” the spokesperson said in a statement. “The safety of our guests and team members is our highest priority.”

Raging Bull, which opened in 1999, stands 202 feet tall and stretches 5,057 feet, reaching speeds of up to 73 mph, according to the park’s website. It is the tallest and longest coaster in the park.

The incident in Georgia occurred at approximately 3:58 p.m. Monday at the Georgia park in Cobb County, according to the Cobb County Police Department. Police identified the man who died as Hassan Jihad Ibn Kariem, 42, of Atlanta.

Preliminary information gathered through witness and employee interviews indicated Kariem was ejected from the ride and struck other patrons before falling beneath the attraction, police wrote in a press release. The investigation remains ongoing.
