An Illinois State Police trooper charged with sexual assault allegedly drugged and assaulted a bartender last year in suburban Tinley Park.
Douglas Lee, 54, was stripped of his police powers and ordered held at Cook County jail after he was charged Friday, according to court records and state police.
Lee is accused of drugging a woman while she was out with friends, taking her to a hotel and sexually assaulting her before leaving her in her car overnight.
According to Cook County prosecutors, Lee knew the woman and frequently visited the bar where she worked as a bartender. They met in 2024.
On Aug. 2, 2025, the woman stayed at the bar with friends after finishing her shift. The group later decided to walk to a nearby bar, and Lee asked to join them.
At the second bar, Lee allegedly bought the woman a seltzer and a shot. The woman told investigators the last thing she remembered after drinking them was dancing with a friend.
The woman woke up in her car around 10:45 a.m. the next day, prosecutors said. Her car was parked in the same spot where she had left it when she arrived for work the previous day. When she woke up, she noticed her pants were inside out, her bra was on the passenger seat and her shirt was tucked into the pocket of her jacket.
The woman then got out of her car and went into the bar to use the restroom. Afterward, she realized there were signs that she had engaged in sexual intercourse, but she had no recollection of it.
She called two of her friends she was with the night before. One friend said she had seen the woman and Lee dancing, prosecutors said.
The woman allegedly called Lee to ask for an explanation. He met her in the bar’s parking lot and admitted they had intercourse but claimed it was consensual, prosecutors said.
Video footage from the second bar showed Lee and the woman leaving the bar about 1:30 a.m. Other videos showed the woman getting into Lee’s car and driving off, prosecutors said.
Lee then drove to a hotel in Midlothian, where he paid for a room using his credit card and assaulted the woman, prosecutors said.
The woman petitioned for an order of protection against Lee, court records show. Lee was ordered to stay away from the woman and have no contact with her for the duration of the case.
Lee was arrested Thursday. Cook County Judge Shauna Boliker ordered Lee to remain held at a hearing Saturday.
Court records also show Lee was accused of assault in 2005 in connection with allegedly making threatening phone calls. The case was later dismissed.
