NASCAR Postpones The Clash Again to Midweek Show

On Sunday, February 1, NASCAR announced it was once again postponing The Clash because of continued weather-related conditions. All events will now be run on Wednesday, Feb. 4 at Bowman Gray Stadium.

This is the third adjustment the sanctioning body has made to the non-points event because of weather.

Start times have also changed from those previously listed for Monday, Feb. 2 regarding the practice, qualifying and Last Chance Qualifier. The Clash is still slated for a 6 p.m. green flag time.

More Snow on Saturday Causing Unsafe Conditions

Via a release issued by NASCAR on Sunday afternoon, they cited unsafe road and venue issues as the leading reason.

“This event is for the fans, and the fans at The Madhouse are some of the most passionate fans in all of sports,” Justin Swilling, Project Lead, Cook Out Clash,. “Moving the Cook Out Clash to Wednesday, Feb. 4, gives us the best opportunity to hold this event with fans at Bowman Gray Stadium, while allowing the City of Winston-Salem to dedicate all of their resources to respond to the needs created by this historic weather event.”

The National Weather Service said the Winston-Salem area received historic measurements of up to 11 inches of snow in some area. The city and NASCAR worked together to reach the decision to move the event.

What’s Happening When

For Wednesday, the official event schedule shows the practice and qualifying session will now run from. to 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., the 75-lap LCQ will start at 4:30 p.m. and the 200 lap Clash getting the green flag at 6 p.m.

Heavy snowfall on Saturday followed a storm the previous weekend leaving the city with unsafe traveling, and racing, conditions. As expected, NASCAR and the city have also communicated with the North Carolina Department of Transportation. All entities had input into what could be done and the available options to successfully run The Clash.

In addition, the BGS on-site crew had been working feverishly to get the venue ready. Despite the removal 40 dumps trucks loaded with snow from 0.25-mile track venue, it still didn’t make the area safe for all involved.

Wednesday Start Times Forecast

When the practice and qualifying session starts at 1:30 p.m., the temperature is forecasted to be 34 degrees then up to 35 by 3:30 p.m. under overcast skies. The LCQ start time of 4:30 p.m. shows the daytime high of 40 degrees.

For the 200-lap all green flag of The Clash, the forecast shows 36 degrees with light winds.

A broadcast move from FS2 for the practice and qualifying session will now air on the Fox Sports App. The LCQ and Clash will remain on FOX-TV, MRN and Sirius XM Radio for those respective start times.

NASCAR Offering Ticket Credit for Fans

With the second move for the event, NASCAR is offering a credit to ticketed fans who can now not make it to BGS on Wednesday.

Race fans may choose to receive either a 120% credit equal to the value of their order or a 100% refund. More details and information are available for ticketholders at http://www.nascarclash.com/weather or by calling 855-525-7223.
