Ex-Staffer Says Jennifer Lopez ‘Does Not Deserve to Be Conflated’ With Diddy’s Crimes

Jennifer Lopez hasn’t commented on Sean “Diddy” Combs’ arrest. After Homeland Security raided two of Combs’ properties in March 2024, federal agents took Combs into custody in September 2024, and he now faces charges of racketeering, sex trafficking, and transportation to engage in prostitution. A staffer who worked on films with Lopez recently spoke out and claimed Lopez has nothing to do with Combs’ crimes.

Jennifer Lopez and Sean “Diddy” Combs dated from 1999 to 2001 after meeting on the set of Lopez’s music video. They didn’t fall in love at first. However, Lopez eventually felt charmed by Combs, and they sustained a romance. After their relationship ended (which Lopez later admitted involved infidelity from Combs), they maintained a friendship.

After Combs’ arrest, Lopez’s fans wondered if she would be questioned. Lopez attended Combs’ A-list parties in the early 2000s. Several lawsuits against Combs claim he drugged and sexually assaulted partygoers during “freak-offs” — sex gatherings that went on for days.

Thea de Sousa, a staff member who worked on Lopez’s 2002 film, Maid In Manhattan, defended Lopez on Threads. “If you knew Jennifer Lopez, if you ever worked with her like I did, or if you were close with people who are like family to her like I am, you would know she did not have any idea about Diddy,” Sousa said, according to DailyMail.com. “She barely drinks, she is not a partier, she isn’t a good time girl, she is a workaholic who uplifts a woman and who was charmed by him for a brief time in her life.”

Sousa ended her post by stating Lopez “does not deserve to be conflated with [Combs’] shocking and criminal misdeeds.”

Jennifer Lopez only dated Sean “Diddy” Combs for two years. However, she and Combs were part of a nightclub shooting in 1999. Because of her “firsthand knowledge” of the shooting, she could potentially have to stand as a witness.

“Jennifer Lopez’s presence the night of the shooting incident and then departing in the same vehicle as Combs makes her a witness with firsthand knowledge and could subject her to being subpoenaed to testify under oath,” New York lawyer Pete Gleason told In Touch Weekly. “If there are any criminal charges or civil claims not outside the statute of limitations, this would likely prove problematic for Lopez.”
