Judd Trump has failed to reach the quarter-final of a tournament for the first time in 2024, beaten by Xu Si in the last 16 of the International Championship.
The world number one has been in incredible consistent form this year and been to the last eight of all 15 events he has played, before this week in Nanjing.
That superb run has been brought to an end by 26-year-old Xu with an impressive 6-4 win over Trump, who turned in a below-par performance.
Xu will not be fussed about Trump’s display, though, as he books his spot in only his third ever ranking quarter-final, with breaks of 104, 76, 76, 69 and 65 along the way.
The Chinese star came into the tournament ranked number 49 in the world, but this run will see him climb the rankings.
He has shown form already this season, with one of his two previous quarter-final runs coming at the Xi’an Grand Prix in August, where he beat the likes of Mark Williams and Stuart Bingham.
It will not get any easier for him, though, with the winner of Mark Selby and Gary Wilson waiting for him in the last eight on Thursday.

Also joining Xu in the quarter-finals will be Chris Wakelin and Jackson Page after both scored impressive wins on Wednesday.
Wakelin downed three-time world champion Mark Williams 6-4, while Page beat Ronnie O’Sullivan’s conqueror, Pang Junxu, by the same scoreline.
