“1,000-lb. Sisters” star Amy Slaton-Halterman says she was bitten by a camel prior to her Labor Day arrest at a Tennessee zoo after authorities say two kids were in her car, along with psychedelics.
The Tennessee Safari Park owner contests the account given by the TLC star, 36, which was shared with TMZ by her lawyer, Taylor Hughes.
The zoo owner insists a graphic image of Slaton-Halterman’s gash isn’t proof she was bitten by an animal. Though Hughes says his client was wheeled away on a stretcher, and the injury circulating is certainly a deep one, the owner says Slaton-Halterman would have suffered bruised tissue if the wound were from a camel bite.
Though it was the allegedly animal-inflicted injury that triggered a call to police, they allegedly detected “suspicious odors coming from the guest’s vehicle,” as the Crockett County Sheriff’s Department said earlier this week.
Authorities say they found psychedelic mushrooms and marijuana in plain sight in Slaton-Halterman’s vehicle, in which two kids were seated, per TMZ.
The discovery led to the arrests of Slaton-Halterman and Brian Scott Lovvorn for illegal possession of Schedule I, illegal possession of Schedule VI, and two counts of child endangerment.
The Crockett County Sheriff’s Department previously joked that “It was no ordinary Labor Day,” as Slaton-Halterman went “from feeding a camel to the slammer.”
Though Slaton-Halterman shares sons Gage, 4, and Glenn, 2, with estranged husband Michael Halterman — who filed for divorce in March 2023 — it’s unclear if her kids were those in the vehicle at the time of the incident.
As of Thursday, Hughes said there is no update to Slaton-Halterman’s custody case but that she is grateful for fans’ “love and support” in the aftermath of the arrest.
