OAKLEY — A shooting in unincorporated part of the city near Bethel Island on Monday night killed a man, authorities said.
Detectives from the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office were investigating the homicide, the first one to be investigated this year by the sheriff’s office. Authorities did not identify the man on Tuesday, pending the investigation.
In a statement, sheriff’s office spokesperson Jimmy Lee said deputies were called for reports of a shooting in the 3200 block of Dutch Slough Road about 8:50 p.m. They found a man down in the street when they arrived, and he had a gunshot wound, Lee said.
Deputies tried to revive him, but authorities later pronounced him dead at the scene.
The homicide was the second one in eastern Contra Costa County in less than a week. A 20-year-old Antioch woman died in a shooting in that city last Thursday. Authorites have yet to identify her publicly.
