The Harvey City Council elected an acting mayor one month after the death of Mayor Christopher Clark.
Ald. Shirley Drewenski (1st) was unanimously selected during Monday’s City Council meeting and was sworn in to serve the remainder of Clark’s term through next year.
Drewenski had previously been sworn in as mayor pro tempore after Clark’s death. Her appointment comes after two prior council votes ended in ties. A majority vote is required for the appointment.
Drewenski did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Clark died Jan. 30 and served as mayor for six years. The cause of his death has not been revealed.
A memorial service will be held for Clark on March 28, according to the city.
